Ideas:
• Book of the Week Ideas:
Goose Activities
Help your child understand "sharing" when reading this book
Discuss the spatial words used in this book.

• Raise scarves or handkerchief high/low

• Check out this Spatial Concept website for suggestions and pictures

• Hide a toy then try to find it with clues of “higher, lower, near, etc.”

• Name activity:
This is the first time that your child is asked to write a letter of the alphabet with a pencil.  Up to this point, the child has simply been tracing the letters and numbers with a finger.  The past five weeks have been preparing your child to write the first letter in her/her name by working on the four key movements in making letters and numbers - vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and circular lines.  If your child is not ready to move on past these basic movements, that is fine and do not worry.  Moving on will only frustrate everyone.  If they are ready, be sure to read the Learning to Write for suggestions in making this transition.  Continue to say the Letter Formation Chant as the child writes each letter.  In the 3 Year Curriculum, the child will write his/her first name using capital letters only.

First Letter  Follow this example with the first letter in your child's name.  Write the capital letter in yellow and add the green (start) and red (stop) dots.

• Place three magnetic letters or numbers on the table.  Let your child look at them and say the names of each and then close his/her eyes.  Remove one.  Have your child figure out which letter or number is missing.

• Play Follow the Leader.  Take turns being the leader.  Talk about how Jesus asks us to follow Him just like the 12 disciples did.

• Fishing Game
Supplies:  dowel rod, string, magnet, card stock paper, marker, scissors, contact paper, and paper clips
Make a fishing pole with a dowel rod, string, and magnet.  Make fish on various colors of card stock paper with a large paper clip for the mouth.  Write individual letters or numbers on each fish.  (Best to laminate or use contact paper.) Have your child “fish” for letters or numbers.  You can also use magnetic refrigerator numbers and letters as "fish".

• Fine Motor Skills:
Using safety scissors have your child cut out shapes (square & rectangle) that you have drawn with thick lines on heavy paper (cardstock). When cutting, remind the child that his/her dominant hand does the cutting while the other hand moves the paper.  Watch that the elbows do not point out while cutting.  Check out Teaching How to Use Scissors for ideas.

• Gross Motor Skills:
Play Twister - While the real game will probably be too hard now, have fun matching colors and body parts.
