Ideas:
• Letter & Number Ideas:
Weeks 15-16 focus on the bubble characters. Start by creating the characters using popsicle sticks for the straight lines and play dough snakes or pipe cleaners for the bubbles and move to writing the characters on 1 1/2" tracing paper with yellow lines and green and red dots as a guide. Use the Bubble Characters worksheet to show the progression of the letters and numbers. Be sure to say the Letter Formation Chant or Number Rhyme as the child creates each character
Use the bubble of the "D" for the first formation of the "2"
The bottom of the "5" is like the bubble of the "p"
• Jesus Loves the Little Children Story Ideas
- Look through magazines or catalogs to find pictures of many different children. Cut and glue the pictures onto a piece of paper. At the top of the piece of paper write "Jesus Loves Children". Be sure to add a picture of your child. Look at this picture as you sing this week's song "Jesus Loves the Little Children." (Source unknown)
- More ideas at Preschool to Pre-K
• “Left to Right is the way we Read and Write!” (Author unknown)
Trace and cut out the child's left hand on green paper, right hand on red paper. Place the green hand to the left of the page where you are going to write and the red hand to the right. Teach your child to always start at the left (green hand – go), and stop at the right (red hand – stop).
- Read numbers on an alarm clock. Place green hand and red hand on sides of an electric clock.
- Have your child help hold the green hand on left side or red hand on the right side of a book as you read. Point to the words as you read.
- Tie a red ribbon around the right hand to help the child remember (red=right).
- Focus on left and right throughout the week – reading left to right, how a computer types left to right across the page, etc.
• Play Uppercase and Lowercase Alphabet Memory with letters learned so far.
• Read Dr. Seuss’ Foot Book - A fun book of opposites
Opposites - another fun book by Sandra Boynton
Miss Spider's Tea Party: The Counting Book - Use this book as a reinforcement of counting (1-12). Allow your child to say the numbers as you read. Also discuss how the spider was gentle with the moth as she dried off his wings.
God Gave Us Christmas- A wonderful book that explains the true meaning of Christmas. Available at Christianbook.com or Amazon
The Jesus Book - Read pages 47, 72, and 82-83 to review the Bible story
• Collection of ABCJLM Christmas Ideas - Choose one to help you stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas
• Play the "Birth of a Savior" adventure and use the coloring sheets on the Charlie Church Mouse Kindergarten Cd-Rom. Read more...
• Fine Motor Skills:
Fingerpaint numbers and letters learned
• Gross Motor Skills:
Have your child stand opposite you with about seven feet separating you. Before throwing a large soft ball or beach ball toward your child, say "right", "left", or "both". Depending on what you say, have the child bat the ball away with that hand(s). This requires another level of thinking. At first, have your child show you which hand(s) they will use. As he/she improves, give less time before the ball is thrown.
• Visual Perception Skill:
Mazes
