Ideas:
• Letter & Number Ideas:
Weeks 15-16 focus on the bubble characters.  Start by creating the characters using popsicle sticks for the straight lines and play dough snakes or pipe cleaners for the bubbles and move to writing the characters on 1 1/2" tracing paper with yellow lines and green and red dots as a guide.  If needed, create 3" characters using yellow lines and green and red dots as a transition to the tracing paper.  Use the Bubble Characters worksheet to show the progression of the letters and numbers.  Be sure to say the Letter Formation Chant or Number Rhyme as the child creates each character

- Point out that writing a "3" is simply the second step in writing a "B"

• Discuss the mailing system and the importance of your address
- Walk to the mailbox
- Look at mail
- Look on a map (Google earth is really cool)
- Have your child send himself a letter

• Self-Control
- Role play daily situation about self-control using stuffed animals or toys – talk about what you may want to do vs. what you should do
- Discuss good choices & bad choices throughout the week

• Address
Just as with the phone number, it is important for a child to know their address.  Once again, setting your address to a song will help a child remember these non-sense words.  The "Muffin Man" works great - 3527 West Purple Road, West Purple Road, West Purple Road....That's where Fred lives.

• My Young Child Character Education Story - read online for free or print.  Be sure to do the discussion and activities for each book.
    -Sharing With My Friend

• Sink and Float
- Using household items – have your child predict whether an item will sink or float.  Experiment with placing sinking items on floating items.  Incorporate a kitchen scales as well to discuss weight.  Encourage your child to find things throughout the week that they think will sink or float.  (sponge, fork, clothes pin)

- Why Do Boats Float? (boat is a fun /b/ word) - (Idea from Wondertime Magazine May 2008 by Kevin Markey)
What floats a boat is its shape.  Get some modeling clay and fill a sink with water.  First roll the clay into a solid egg shape.  Drop it in the water and watch it sink.  Now shape the lump into a hollowed-out bowl and place it back into the water.  If the shape is right, the clay will float.  (Hint:  The deeper you make the bowl – the more air it encloses – the better.)

- Make boats out of plastic baby food containers at Discover and Learn.
