Information: Address – City and State - Focus on simply saying your address this week
Math: Opposites – Wise & Foolish
Number: 0, 10
Letter: o, Q
o - circle the "o"
Q - circle with a line
Ideas:
• Letter & Number Ideas:
Week 13 focuses on the Circle Characters - Compare how the zero and "O" are the same as an oval or circle
Start by creating the letters with playdoh snakes or pipe cleaners and writing on yellow lines with green and red dots..
Use the Circle Characters worksheet to show the progression of the letters and numbers
Point out to your child that your mouth makes an "o" shape when you say "oh" - circle the "o" shape with your finger
Letter Q - Just for fun, make an "oh" shape with our mouth and then stick out your tongue to the side to make the line to form a "Q".
• Play the “Opposites Game”
“I am going to say and word and I want you to say the opposite.” (ie. Day/Night, Off/On, Over/Under)
• Discuss the mailing system and the importance of your address
- Walk to the mailbox
- Look at mail
- Look on a map (Google earth is really cool)
- Have your child send himself a letter
• My Young Child Character Education Story - read online for free or print. Be sure to do the discussion and activities for each book.
Rosa Takes Responsibility
I am a Big Kid
• Wise Man and the Foolish Man - Create a house with large marshmellows. Create another house using little legos. Turn on a fan or hair dryer and see how the houses stand when the "wind" blows. Relate this to the Bible Story.
• Read: Me on the Map
- A wonderful book to help your child understand his/her address - Can be taken a step further by recreating the sequence starting with your child's room moving all of the way up to the world map.
God I Need to Talk to You About Laziness
• Fine Motor Skill:
Using safety scissors, have your child cut out shapes (square, rectangle, circle, & diamond) that you have drawn on construction paper. Draw using thick lines - Check out Teaching How to Use Scissors for ideas.
• Gross Motor Skills:
Ribbon Dancing - Attach ribbons, streamers or scarves to the ends of a ruler, dowel, or paper towel holder. Hold the ribbon swirling it from side to side, up and down, etc. Be sure to switch hands. This activity improves hand-eye coordination.
