Ideas:
• Letter & Number Ideas:
Weeks 10-12 focus on the second group of "angled-line letters." Start by creating the characters using short and long popsicle sticks and move to writing the characters on 1 1/2" tracing paper with yellow lines and green and red dots as a guide. Use the Angled Line Characters #2 worksheet to show the progression of the letters and numbers. Be sure to say the Letter Formation Chant or Number Rhyme as the child creates each character.
• Have your child send out Thank-you gifts (cards or crafts) to let people know that they are thankful for their friendship. The child can practice writing their first and last name at the closing.
• Make Handprint Turkeys (example on November calendar) - construction paper, colors or paints - Either draw around your child's hand and allow them to color the inside or paint the hand and create a handprint. You may want to begin the Handprint and Footprint Calendar for a great Christmas gift.
• 10 Little Lepers - (Sung to the tune of "Five Little Ducks")
Ten little lepers got healed that day.
But only one leper came back to say.
"Thank you, Jesus, for making me well
Many people I will tell."
Jesus asked, "Where are the nine?
I healed ten bodies and made them fine."
But only one came back to me
Remember God gives to all graciously.
• 10 Lepers Craft (Adapted from Big Book of Christian Crafts)
Trace around the child's hand or paint and stamp a handprint. Show all 10 fingers for the first page and only one finger for the second page. Add the title "Jesus healed 10 men... ...but only 1 said "Thank You!" Luke 17:11-19"
• Phone etiquette
Using practice phones, demonstrate how to answer the phone
Answer the phone by saying, “Hello, this is _____”
Explain the importance of speaking clearing in the phone with a moderate volume
Ask a relative or friend to call to give the child extra practice
• Talk about the meaning of Thanksgiving. Discuss how the pilgrims were thankful to God for the harvest they had received.
