Ideas:
• Book of the Week Ideas:
Use this book to further discuss spatial words
Coloring Sheet
• Letter & Number Ideas:
Weeks 5-9 focus on "angled-line letters." Start by creating the characters using short and long popsicle sticks and move to writing the characters on 1 1/2" tracing paper with yellow lines and green and red dots as a guide. Use the Angled Line Characters #1 worksheet to show the progression of the letters and numbers. Be sure to say the Letter Formation Chant or Number Rhyme as the child creates each character.
M - to help remember the letter "M", demonstrate how an "M" looks like two mountains
• Name:
Continue to have the child practice writing their name on 1 1/2" tracing paper. View Learning to Write to decide the appropriate level of difficulty to start for your child.
• Spatial:
- Discuss daily activities using spatial words. (i.e., What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning? Where is the last place we visited today?)
-Stack three different colored Duplo Legos. Discuss which block color is the top, middle, and bottom.
-Have fun learning about on and off with a flashlight and a dark closet.
• My Young Child Character Education Story - read online for free or print. Be sure to do the discussion and activities for each book.
-Rosa Learns Forgiveness
• Craft - God Is Our Eraser (reprinted with permission)
Materials: pencils of different shapes and sizes with a good eraser, yarn, very small wiggly eyes, glue, felt
Directions: Say “Look at all these pencils. They all are very different; short, tall, thin, fat - different sizes, shapes and colors. They all have one thing in common, though. They all have an eraser for when they make mistakes.” Compare the pencils to people. Tell children that people have an eraser too. God is our eraser. When we ask forgiveness, He takes away our sins, just like the eraser wipes away the pencils' mistakes. Let children create “pencil people” with the craft materials.
• Read & View: The Berenstain Bears and the Golden Rule
Veggie Tales: God Wants Me to Forgive Them?
• Fine Motor Skill:
Play Dough - Hide coins or small items in the play dough and have your child find the item. Using their index finger, have your child find the items. Using their thumb is "cheating" and not working the weaker muscles.
• Gross Motor Skill:
Do a Memory Obstacle Course - Use letters and numbers
• Visual Perception Skill:
Dot-to-Dot
