Phonics songs are an excellent tool for teaching letter sounds as children prepare for reading. Sing the songs slowly, focusing on the sound of the letter. Be careful not to add a vowel to the end of the /u/ sound (avoid saying /tuh/).

Glue triangles on the Tt Poster
- Glue or draw trees on the Tt Poster
- Paint the top of the letters green and the bottom portion brown
Drive a tractor or train through paint and onto the Letter T Poster.
- Glue tires on the Tt Poster.
- Drive a matchbox car through a black inkpad and drive on the Tt Poster
- Glue or stick pictures of tigers on the Tt Poster.
- Paint black and orange tiger stripes on the Tt Poster.
Paint a small section of a piece of paper with water-downed glue. Lay torn pieces tissue paper on paper. Paint over the tissue paper with the water-downed glue. Continue until the entire paper is covered. Let dry.
Build train tracks and push toy trains around the room. Or play with toy trucks.
Practice tossing beanbags into a target.

There are a plethora of apples books that can be used to teach the Letter A, but this is one of my favorites. Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Seuss features three animals stacking apples on their heads as they compete to see who can balance the most. Through playful rhymes and colorful illustrations, children learn counting, coordination, and the excitement of friendly competition.
Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin is a humorous story about a group of cows who find an old typewriter and start making demands from Farmer Brown. They type out messages requesting better living conditions, like electric blankets, and refuse to produce milk until their demands are met. With witty text and clever illustrations, the book introduces children to problem-solving and negotiation.
