Tiny hands learn best when they're playing! The Letter T offers countless opportunities to touch, taste, talk, and try new things. From turtles and trains to trees and tigers, these playful experiences help children hear the /t/ sound while building a love for learning one activity at a time.

Letter T Phonics Sound and Song

Phonics songs are an excellent tool for teaching letter sounds as children prepare for reading. Sing the songs slowly, focusing on the sound of the letter. Be careful not to add a vowel to the end of the /u/ sound (avoid saying /tuh/).

Additional Tt Poster Ideas

  • Toothpicks: Glue toothpicks or paint with toothpicks on the Tt Poster.
  • Letter T Stickers: trains, teddy bears, toys, trucks, etc.
  • Toothbrush: Paint with a toothbrush or flick paint from a toothbrush to create fun textures.
  • Turtle Shell Painting: Use bubble wrap or a potato masher to make textured turtle shells.
  • Tissue Paper Collage: Decorate the Letter T with torn tissue paper.
  • Twig Collage: Glue small twigs around the Letter T.
  • Tape Resist Art: Place painter's tape on the paper, paint over it, then remove the tape to reveal designs.
  • Torn Paper Mosaic: Fill the Letter Tt with small pieces of colorful paper.

  • Create a tree using blocks, sticks, or cardboard tubes.
  • Pretend to move like tigers, turtles, and turkeys.
  • Go on a "T Hunt" to find objects beginning with T.
  • Measure objects using tape measures.
  • Build tall towers with blocks.

Tissue Paper Art

Paint a small section of a piece of paper with water-downed glue. Lay torn pieces tissue paper on paper. Paint over the tissue paper with the water-downed glue. Continue until the entire paper is covered. Let dry.

My T Book My "T" Book -  by Jane Belk Moncure - Be sure to use the phonetic sound of the letter and not just the letter name when reading the book. When we come to a letter, I have my child read the phonetic sound of the letter.
